I live and create on unceded Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land, a place shaped by the care and knowledge of the First Nations peoples for over 65, 000 years. As a female Australian artist I continue to learn the truth of what that identity means: to sit with the weight of our colonial histories, to unlearn, and to honour the ongoing sovereignty of the First Peoples who remain its rightful custodians. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

About Myah Rae
Myah Rae is a visual artist based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), specialising in abstract expressionist charcoal and ink drawings on board. Through her work, she delves into the hidden, often disregarded expressions that shape our understanding of human emotion. Her practice reveals the unfiltered, raw aspects of the human experience, expressed through gestural marks and figures that emerge organically on the surface.
Each piece begins with loose, abstract scribbles, gradually unveiling a face or form that speaks to a collective reality. These faces don’t simply depict a fleeting dream or a distant nightmare—they reflect life as it is, mirroring the emotional nuances of those we encounter every day. Myah’s work invites the viewer to see beyond the surface and consider the subtle cues we often overlook. Are we truly perceiving the emotions of those around us, or have we become blind to them?
Influenced by the spontaneous energy of abstract expressionism, Myah’s process captures both the motion and emotion of her marks. In a fast-paced world where genuine connections can feel rare, her art reminds us to look deeply and see what lies beneath. Through her evocative figures, she challenges us to confront our shared experiences, urging us to see—and feel—one another more clearly.
